What I’m doing now…
(This is a now page, and if you have your own site, you should make one, too.)
Updated 19 March 2026 from Ann Arbor, Michigan as I am wrapping up my “retirement” and preparing to re-launch my consultancy, Secratic. But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been very busy in the meantime!
A booming photography and videography lifestyle.
As a way to use the other side of my brain I have been working with my business partner Chuck Yadmark to build out Preposterous Overproduction and we have been shooting live events both in video and still photography and it’s been a blast. We have gained quite a few clients that span multiple events and give us the chance to use our audio, video, and photography skills in creative ways to make a stellar final deliverable.
Separate from Preposterous Overproduction, I recently joined the Michigan Marching Band Photo & Video crew. I’m doing video editing now, and starting live event shoots in the next few weeks with the flag team. I’m very excited to work with this extremely talented group.
And helping people enjoy their time at UM sporting events.
I would be the world’s worst introvert. Living in Ann Arbor means that everything is University of Michigan, all the time. So why not lean into that and be part of the Michigan Athletics Event Team which is part of making an exceptional experience at all public athletics events on campus. All sports, all year long. For the football season I worked at Michigan Stadium as a ticket taker and part of the response team (not computer response, but actual physical response - was super fun to help fans during games), and for the Men’s Basketball season, I have been a ticket taker, security, and usher mostly in and amongst the student sections.
Sharing what I know with others.
We have been getting The Great Security Debate back on a reliable schedule (every 2 weeks, drops on Mondays) and prepping a few new shows. The dormant MentorCore is being rehydrated and will be part of the Distilling Security Network founded by Brian Schneble, Erik Wille, and me. And I am working on two new shows for the network, one of which is The Final Act, an interview show about the final third of our careers in security and technology, and how we are preparing our chairs for those who will come after us. There’s also one more show in planning, but not yet ready for prime time.
I’ve also been working on sponsorship models for Distilling Security, which has been a completely new way of thinking as I have spent so much time on the CISO/buyer side of the equation. But we want to fund the network and grow audiences and new shows, and we think we have a model that works well from a balanced sponsor benefit and host ethics perspective. If you’re interested in sponsoring an episode of one of our shows, please get in touch!
Finally, I’ve been getting some new talks ready based on the things I have been working on for the last few years: security and privacy as a revenue and growth enabler (even when you’re not a security or privacy company), using security to build brand trust, finding the balance in AI governance in your organisation, and preparing your scale-up for exit from a security, privacy, and compliance perspective. I have a few talks scheduled starting with ISSA Chicago on 9 April 2026.
Returning to my roots: Security and Privacy advisory.
It’s been a wonderful few months of spending time with my family and resting, but it’s also been a reminder of who I am and what I love, and that’s helping startups and scale-ups reasonably integrate security and privacy into their businesses to help them build customer trust, drive revenue and growth, and protect their own and their customers’ intellectual property and sensitive information. Add in some new work on IPO and Exit readiness and diligence prep, and realistic governance of AI in orgs, and helping product companies build AI into their products in a way that customers can build and trust. So, stay tuned as Secratic goes back to full-time in the very near future.
