A Boatload of Racing Stuff

The packing is finished and the flight leaves in 10 hours.Over the years, I have become very optimised at travelling in just one small suitcase regardless of the different needs of the trip; from suits to shorts, polos to pressed shirts it all fits in my one eBags 22" bag that easily fits in the overhead compartment on every plane (except the United 767s, oddly). Unfortunately, for this type of race the list of things I am bringing along has skyrocketed to include a back of just racing kit (excluding race attire and training attire), my (bursting) suitcase with race attire and clothing for the rest of vacation, and my satchel with electronics and liquids. This is a very big departure for me from the usual.Over the past few weeks, I have been amassing a checklist of all the kit that I need to bring just for the race; what a scary list that has become - and it doesn't even include a bike since I am renting that on Thursday after arrival in Florida. Here goes (take a deep breath)

  • Bike Computer (Garmin 800)
  • -> Mount
  • -> Cadence/Pedal Sensor
  • -> Zip ties
  • Heart Rate Strap
  • Footpod
  • Chamois Cream
  • Watch (Garmin)
  • -> Charging cable
  • Extra contact lenses
  • Heed powder
  • Blister plasters
  • 4mm Allen Key
  • 8mm Allen Key
  • Pedals
  • Bike Shoes
  • Goggles
  • Spare Goggles
  • Tri Pants
  • Tri singlet
  • Bike Jersey
  • Swim Cap
  • Bike Helmet
  • Bike Gloves
  • Floor Pump
  • Tiny Pump
  • Patch Kit
  • Bike Socks
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Water Bottle
  • Camelbak
  • Camelbak Bladder
  • Bike Tool Set
  • Hat
  • Running Shoes
  • Running Socks
  • Water Bottle for Running
  • Small Towel
  • Sandals (for after the race)
  • USAT Card
  • Race Number Belt
  • Body Glide
  • Air pressure gauge
  • Car bike rack
  • Garmin ANT+ USB Adapter
  • Towel (cheap orange one for transition)
  • Advil/Aleve

And I am positive I have missed something. The worst part is that all of it will also be coming back home with me (except the Heed and the Gels, but they don't take up all that much room, really). Regardless, it was fun to make sure all the parts were in place to make this a successful race.The weather report is looking to be very appealing for race day (and the vacation as a whole). 65-80F temperatures with winds ESE 5-9mph and 66% humidity. Water temperature is currently 79F which means I will not be using the wetsuit for this swim. All in all it is looking to be a very good day for a triathlon.
